Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said he would ensure that everyone supports President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
The governor’s statement comes days after his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Fubara had claimed that he moved to the APC because the PDP dumped him during his political crisis.
Speaking during the commissioning of the Egbeda-Omerelu link road on Thursday, the governor, who recently resumed office after a prolonged six-month emergency rule, declared that he would work with any group to ensure that Tinubu wins in 2027.
He said, “Our position is to ensure that everyone supports Mr President. We will support every other group to ensure that we deliver for Mr President come 2027.”
Meanwhile, Fubara’s former party, the PDP, has stated that the govenror has fallen in love with his captor.
The party’s factional National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, stated this on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television.
He sympathised with Fubara over his past experience but warned the governor against blaming the wrong party for his travails.
Ememobong said, “During the preparations for the convention, I remember a journalist asked Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state about what the party was doing and he clearly said we need to allow him that he’s been through a lot that they’ve been speaking, so you can’t just throw other people under the bus because of your actions and inactions.
“We sympathise with Siminalayi Fubara. We know that this is a situation where Stockholm syndrome has happened, a captive has fallen in love with a captor and he’s unable to differentiate between where the real problem lies.”
Fubara’s move to the APC follows a similar move of the Rivers Speaker Martin Amaewhule, and sixteen members of the Rivers State House of Assembly into the APC.
