Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda has revealed that his hit song Cash App was intentionally created for internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo boys.
Speaking during a recent interview with Clout Africa, the singer explained that the inspiration behind the viral track came from observing how mentally demanding and stressful internet fraud can be. He said the idea was to make a song that would lift the mood of those involved in the act.
When asked directly by the host, “What inspired Cash App? Were you doing Yahoo?” Shmurda clarified that while he was not involved in fraud, the song was crafted with Yahoo boys in mind.
In Bella’s words:
“It is Yahoo in the sense that they [Yahoo boys] have to dance. These people who are hustling, you have to make them happy. Because internet fraud is stressful. It has a lot of challenges.
“The truth is, when it comes to inspiration, you don’t have any story behind it. It is natural, it just comes. It is God-given. So, Cash App is divine.”

Released in 2020 and featuring rappers Zlatan and Lincoln, Cash App became one of the biggest Nigerian street anthems of that year, dominating airwaves and enjoying massive popularity across Africa.
Shmurda’s revelation has since stirred reactions online, with many debating whether artists should create music that appears to glorify or indirectly support illegal activities.
