A Catholic priest has shaken the internet after calling out Nigerians who join morning and evening online prayer sessions.
Taking to his Facebook page, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu didn’t mince words as he blasted the popular trend, describing online prayers as ‘the most useless forms of prayers’ that achieve absolutely nothing.
According to him, the shouting sessions people join every day are not prayers but simply jaw exercises and aerobics.
In his words, he wrote:
Fr. Ugwu went on to insist that such loud sessions only strengthen people’s “imaginary demons” rather than their relationship with God.
He added that the ministers hosting these live prayers are simply creating content and “cashing out,” running it like a business where they convince followers they have solutions to problems they first created in their minds.
The priest also mocked the demon-slaying claims of some pastors who still rely on security men and bulletproof cars.
“If that does not prove the uselessness of their shouting, nothing else will,” he said.
He ended his post with a final jab, saying you can remain in your foolishness, no wahala. But don’t say you were not told.
Social media reactions have been swift and varied. One commentator said, “Father no lie sha. Some of these online prayers are pure business.” Another wrote, “Whether useless or not, me I go still pray online abeg.”
Fr. Kelvin’s bold statement has sparked serious debate online, leaving many Nigerians divided. While some agree with him, others insist online prayers have changed their lives.
