Activist and social critic Verydarkman (VDM) has recounted a private encounter he had with former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, following news of Musa’s nomination as Minister of Defence by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a lengthy video shared online on Tuesday, 2nd December 2025, VDM revealed that his first real interaction with General Musa came after his public criticism of the military chief’s comments regarding the June 14, 2025, massacre in Yelwata, Benue State.
According to the activist, the violent attack carried out by suspected herdsmen claimed the lives of many residents, leaving the community in ruins. He said he visited Yelwata the very next day, June 15, and personally documented the horrifying aftermath.
His videos, which captured graphic scenes and emotional testimonies from survivors, quickly went viral and forced a national conversation on the incident.
Shortly after General Musa granted a televised interview about the tragedy, VDM publicly criticised him, saying he was dissatisfied with the military chief’s comments. Two days later, he received a call informing him that the Army was looking for him.
He recounted being driven to a military base in Asokoro, Abuja, where he was unexpectedly ushered into a room only to find General Musa himself sitting inside.
“When the door opened, and I saw Christopher Musa, the same man I blasted online, I was shocked,” he said.
According to VDM, the former CDS asked everyone else to leave the room before turning to him with a surprising request: “I need your help.”
He said Musa wanted more detailed information about the Benue massacre and any intelligence he had gathered from locals or from groups familiar with the long-running conflict involving certain Fulani elements.
VDM claimed he had already been receiving credible footage, reports, and background information from sources on the ground.
Describing Musa as a man genuinely seeking solutions, the activist said:
“For a Chief of Defence Staff to call Verydarkman to his house and say, ‘I need your help,’ it shows he was truly looking for answers. There was no pride. He didn’t care whether you were a celebrity or activist, he just wanted the truth.”
