
At least 30 women and girls were abducted on Saturday night when armed bandits attacked Chacho community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The incident, which also left one resident injured, was revealed in a post on X by security analyst Bakatsine on Sunday. According to the report, the gunmen invaded the community under the cover of darkness.
They kidnapped dozens of women and girls, including a bride and her bridesmaids, just hours before the scheduled wedding ceremony.
The mass abduction adds to the growing wave of insecurity across parts of the North-West, where communities continue to face frequent raids by armed groups. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the attack.
According to Bakatsine, the attackers invaded the community during the night and took away women and girls, including a bride and her bridesmaids, only hours before the planned wedding ceremony.
“Yesterday night, bandits invaded Chacho community in Wurno LGA of Sokoto State. They injured one person and abducted at least 30 women and girls, including a bride and her bridesmaids during the invasion.
“A day meant for joy and celebration was shattered as bandits stormed and inflicted wounds. How much more pain must ordinary families endure before they find safety?,” Bakatsine wrote. Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the attack.
The bandits and terrorists have increased their attacks recently, invading schools and churches and kidnapping hundreds. The Nigerian security operatives are currently trying to put the situation under control with increase presence of soldiers and tactical units of the police.
