A sales representative has sparked outrage online after she was accused of diverting N1.2 million belonging to a group thrift (ajo/esusu) to finance a tummy-tuck procedure in Ajah, Lagos
The incident occurred after her boyfriend told her that her tummy was “too big,” prompting her to use the collective funds to pay for cosmetic enhancement.
According to a video shared on social media, the woman was responsible for collecting and remitting contributions to the thrift group. Suspicion arose when payment deadlines were missed, and attempts to hold her accountable failed.
The situation took a turn when another staff member involved in the thrift alerted their boss, leading to the discovery of the diverted funds. The boss, visibly angry in the video, was seen shouting at the girl, who didn’t look remorseful.
The incident has triggered wide reactions online, with many Nigerians condemning the influence of body-shaming in personal decisions and self-confidence.
