Glo apologises to Nigerians over nationwide data outage, promises swift restoration

Telecommunication operator Globacom has tendered an apology to its subscribers after a nationwide disruption to its data services on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

The company, in a statement issued on its social media pages on Tuesday, confirmed that the outage, which started at 8:30 a.m., affected multiple locations across the country.

“Earlier today, a data service outage occurred nationwide, affecting data connectivity across multiple locations,” the company said.

Glo reassured subscribers that its technical team is working diligently to restore services.

“Our technical team is working to resolve the issue and ensure services are being restored as quickly as possible,” the statement read.

Acknowledging the inconvenience caused, the provider expressed gratitude to its customers for their understanding.

“We understand how important reliable access is to you and sincerely apologise for the disruption,” the company said.

The statement concluded by thanking customers for their trust. “Thank you for your patience and for choosing Glo. We truly appreciate you,” it added.

Glo also used its social media platforms to reach out to affected users, reinforcing its commitment to resolving the outage promptly

Many Glo users have been frustrated as their data balance stopped showing, and some couldn’t use their active subscriptions during the outage, leading to demands for refunds.

Some users even thought they had mistakenly used up their data and bought new plans, only to later realise it was a network issue.

“I have switched off and on my phone about 10 times, gone to the settings almost 10000000 times, thinking I mistakenly tampered with something,” @AlliOlabisi5, a user on X lamented.

Glo currently has about 21.39 million subscribers, making it Nigeria’s third-largest telecom operator. Although the company has been trying to recover from previous subscriber losses, it continues to face major challenges.

This recent glitch follows a similar network outage in November that affected several northern states due to multiple fibre cuts. The broader telecom sector is also battling widespread vandalism and frequent fibre damage.

NCC data shows over 19,000 fibre cuts recorded between January and August 2025 alone, causing serious service disruptions and billions of naira in losses.
