Wizkid’s 14-year-old son, Boluwatife Balogun popularly known by his stage name Champz, is opening up about his fast-rising career and why he doesn’t feel pressured by his father’s superstar status.
In a new interview with Glitch Africa, Champz explained the origin of his stage name, revealing that “Champz” evolved from the nickname Champion. He also shared that his sound blends Afro-fusion and Rap, a direction he believes fully represents him as an artist.
When asked about whether his father’s global success puts any weight on his shoulders, the teenage star confidently dismissed the idea.
According to him:
“There’s no pressure. I’m young, I’m 14, and I still have a long way to go. I’ve done a lot for my age with the EP, the releases, and the achievement.”
Champz recently surprised fans with the release of his debut EP titled “Champions’ Arrival”, a 5-track project featuring Champion Montana, Grind, Superstar, Champion Sound, and Champiano.
Within hours of release, the project skyrocketed to No. 1 on Apple Music Nigeria, surpassing major projects like Fola’s Catharsis and Blaqbonez’s No Excuses.
Champz also made history by becoming the youngest Nigerian artist to surpass one million monthly listeners on Spotify, a milestone that has drawn massive attention to his sound and potential.
