Nigerian TikTok sensation, Peller, has sparked an online conversation after a confrontation with police officers who drove away a new car belonging to his friend, singer Jo Blaq.
A video circulating on social media shows the moment Peller insisted on his right to record the officers during the incident.
The clip captures Peller, who is sitting in the front seat with the policeman, questioning him and others after the vehicle, newly acquired by Jo Blaq, was forcefully taken away under unclear circumstances.
When officers challenged Peller for filming, he stood his ground, insisting he was within his rights.
“I have the right to video you guys. When I went to America, I was allowed to record police officers,” Peller said as officers attempted to stop the recording.
While details surrounding why the vehicle was towed remain sketchy, the video shows Peller visibly frustrated as the officers took the car away despite their protests.
Many Nigerians reacted, comparing the situation to practices in other countries where recording the police is considered legal and protected. Others criticized the officers for avoiding cameras if, truly, he was carrying out his assignment.
