JUST IN: Tinubu gives Reno Omokri fresh appointment

pmnews, November 29, 2025

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Reno Omokri, former special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan, as ambassador.

This was confirmed in a list of 32 ambassadorial nominees sent to the Senate for confirmation.

According to a statement from the president’s media office, the president sent the names of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation, days after he sent the first batch of three names.

Among others in the list are: former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a former aviation minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, former governor of Abia, Victor Okezie Ikpeazu, former Enugu governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno, and others.

Reno, a former Tinubu’s critic turned supporter

Reno Omokri was born on January 22, 1974, in Warri, Delta State. He earned a law degree and a Master of Laws from the University of Wolverhampton and was called to the Nigerian bar in 2000.

He served as Special Assistant on New Media to President Goodluck Jonathan from 2011 to 2015.

Reno, who has become a social media influencer with over 5 million followers across platforms, was one of the many critics of President Tinubu who later became his supporters.

He cited new evidence and a trusted personal relationship as key factors in his change of stance.

Speaking on Breakfast Central in March, Omokri acknowledged that public memory in Nigeria is often short-lived, stating, “Well, if you look back into history, a lot of Nigerians are not meticulous when it comes to keepers, and as a country, we have a very short memory.”

Omokri explained that his initial opposition to Tinubu was based on two major concerns: the President’s academic credentials and alleged links to drug-related activities.

However, a personal investigation into Tinubu’s educational background in September 2022 led him to reconsider one of these concerns.

“I met with individuals there; I was given inconsiderable evidence that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu attended, passed his exams, and graduated from Chicago State University.

“And after that date, I changed completely,” Omokri, who served as a Special Assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan, stated.

Let hear you in the comment.
