Nigerian international music star, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has shared what her alternative career path would have been if she hadn’t become a musician.

“If music didn’t work, what else do you think you would be doing today?”

Tems responded:
“I might have been an accountant or a mathematics teacher.”

‘I would have been a Mathematics teacher if I wasn’t a musician: Singer Tems reveals

The Grammy-winning singer has been open in the past about her early career struggles and her decision to quit her job as a digital marketer in January 2018 to fully pursue music. Just months later, she released her debut single, “Mr Rebel”, which began gaining traction in Nigeria.

Her global breakthrough came in 2020 after being featured on Wizkid’s hit single “Essence”, which later peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 following Justin Bieber’s remix. The success cemented Tems as one of the most prominent voices in African music today.

Despite her rise to international stardom, Tems’ recent response shows she might have ended up in a classroom or accounting office if music hadn’t been her calling.

What do you think??
